Friday 28th August 2015
7pm
Present: Ansie, Jane, Mark, Brian, Steven, Bracken and Laura.
1) Welcome and introductions. We introduced ourselves and talked about our role in cycling.
2) Bracken talked about the history of the Solihull Bicycle Campaign (SBC) including: the beginning of the campaign, the development of the monthly newsletter, how we gained over 50 subscribers, organised cycle rides and participated on stalls at events.
3) Bracken began with how the finance works, such as how Push Bikes have helped with funding. Also, Bracken asked if paid membership would be a benefit to the campaign. As a group we then discussed how Push Bikes and Space 4 Cycling can help the SBC gain more members.
4) We had an open discussion on what we can do next as the SBC, such as : Growing membership numbers, encouraging ordinary cyclists to join, supporting schemes that will help cyclists, as well as discussing how small changes can affect the quality of routes.
We decided the best way to improve the campaign was to focus on approaching and working with council officers, indentify issues to campaign on to gain members and encourage people to respond to consultations. Additionally we committed to exploring our relationship with Push Bikes in the future, including the possibility of joint paid membership. The reason we are avoiding paid membership is because we may lose the members we already have and it could become difficult to gain members, as charging membership may discourage people from joining.
5) As a group we voted Bracken in as chair, Laura will continue as Secretary, Mark and Ansie volunteered to tend meetings as a representative and assist with stalls respectively.
6) No other business.
7) To conclude Bracken summarised the meeting and decisions made and thanked everyone for attending.
