You may (or not) be aware of Solihull Council's "Quiet Lanes" initiative. The Council are initially designating three quiet lanes in the borough which they intend to make safe for cyclists, walkers and horse riders. At present stakeholders (those affected) are being contacted for their views of the project. Following this the scheme will be rolled out with a further consultation period to follow. It is not clear at this stage what restrictions will be enforced on those using motor vehicles in these quiet lanes. Solihull Council tell me that there needs to be some agreement among those affected. This is a step forward in making Solihull's country lanes safe for vulnerable road users although the car loving Silhillians may take some convincing.

This scheme seems on the way to be dead and buried following Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak's comments recently. All roads will be open for use by motor vehicles; there will be no traffic-free roads (near schools) and all 20 mph speed limits will be scrapped. I cannot see Tory controlled Solihull Council disagreeing with their political masters.
